Parent Handbook

The following policies and procedures have been developed to clarify the relationship among SDS, our swimmers, and our parents and to establish clear, realistic expectations on the part of all. Our policies and procedures have been refined by experience and the input of swimmers, coaches, and parents. The most essential part of the relationship among SDS, our swimmers, and our parents is a thorough knowledge of and adherence to these policies and procedures.

Athlete Code of Conduct

Parent Code of Conduct

As a parent of a swimmer and member of The Capitol Sea Devils, you will abide by the following guidelines.

Safe Sport Training for Parents

The USA Swimming Safe Sport Program is proud to offer free athlete protection training to the parents of our member athletes. Parents are a critical component to the overall goal of protecting children from sexual abuse. The comprehensive online programming includes information about how offenders operate; how to recognize and respond to boundary violations; myths and facts about child sexual abuse and USA Swimming's Athlete Protection Policies and Procedures.

SDS Policy on Electronic Communication

Sea Devil Swimming recognizes the prevalence of electronic communication and social media in today’s world. Many of our swimmers use these means as their primary method of communication. While SDS acknowledges the value of these methods of communication, SDS also realizes that there are associated risks that must be considered when adults use these methods to communicate with minors.

SDS Policy on Bullying

Bullying of any kind is unacceptable at Sea Devil Swimming and will not be tolerated. Bullying is counterproductive to team spirit and can be devastating to a victim. SDS is committed to providing a safe, caring and friendly environment for all of our members. If bullying does occur, all athletes and parents should know that incidents will be dealt with promptly and effectively. Anyone who knows that bullying is happening is expected to tell a coach, board member or athlete/mentor.

Relay Participation Policy

SDS relays will be assigned based on the top times ladder per age group and gender prior to the start of the meet. If a swimmer is not present at the meet prior to the start of warm-ups, they will be scratched from the ladder and not considered for relay participation. Coaches may use their discretion when assigning relays.
