Good Morning,

This morning (Nov 22) you may have received a somewhat cryptic email that began to tell you about our plans to move the SDS family directory to a web-based system. What you got was an example of some of the problems one may encounter when starting things up. Sorry about that.

The email included a link to allow you to go online, select a password, and view the directory. Just to fill you in on a few items. The directory has been very expensive, and cumbersome to create. It is frequently quickly out of date, and while providing many nice features, is not nearly as convenient as we would like, hence our decision to move online.

The online directory is pretty flexible. You can decide which, if any, of your information can be seen by others, you can update phone numbers, kids, and pretty much anything else.

The directory is secure, and is based on the email address we have for you. You will select your own password, and only you can change it.

You have the option of printing out or producing a pdf version of that part of the directory you may find most useful. You can print an entire listing of all families, or select only those at certain pools. Feel free to play around with the directory and the various capabilities.

As will all information, it is only as good as the information we have. I am sure there are incorrect addresses, names of children or spouses has been omitted, misspelled, or otherwise fouled up, but I am operating with the best information we have. So, please, please, go to the directory and make any corrections.

For those of you who wonder about such things, the listings are keyed to a form of your street address. In the actual database, there is one listing per person (parent 1, parent 2, swimmer 1, swimmer 2, etc.). There is one email address listed as the key email, and that is the one your invitation to join the directory was linked to. There is room in each family to add other email addresses, but only the original is used to access your directory listing.

Finally (I know), there is no need to inform me of changes you make. Please just make changes online, and that way, corrections will be made definitively.

Sorry about the weird short email you got earlier. The system decided it was tired of my typing, and now you are too.

Hopefully we can get this working and you will find this to be a really useful tool.

Thanks again,

Mark Morgan, your humble webmaster.
